Finding Yourself in Your House

member of the family

In feng shui each direction corresponds to an
element, such as wood, stone, fire, metal, or
water. Each direction also corresponds to a
different person, too. In the home, many things
can be determined based on what is going on
in the various locations in the home.

For instance, perhaps you have a NW corner
missing. If that’s the case, it could be that you
have a husband or father who travels a lot or
who's often gone from home.  If you're single
and female, you may find male companionship
hard to come by.

When reading this, you'll want to take a look at
your home to see if there is someone in the house
that is benefiting by their “location” in the house – or if there is something that is creating a problem for them.

In the case of the father who is missing a lot (maybe overwork?), a heavy stone placed in the missing corner will help.get him to be at home more often.  Or, place something heavy, or symbolically heavy such as a globe on a floor stand, to help anchor him to your home.

Look around to see if there are areas in your home that you could address and that would also help the respective people – and aspects such as health or wealth – of your life.  And don't forget about annual feng shui.  Negative energy that changes each year can create problems for specific members of your family.

NORTHWEST SECTOR:
This is the sector of the father, patriarch, or man of the house. Afflictions in this area of the house are considered the most serious in feng shui. These can include annual afflictions (when the directions change), and other afflictions such as toilets, kitchens, fireplaces, barbecues, etc.

This area is also associated with the head. Afflictions in this area can create problems that are related to this area – everything from aneurisms to dandruff, stuffy noses to headaches. If this area is missing, be sure to add something heavy outside where the missing corner is, or add a mirror to visually expand the area.

Avoid having fire (candles, bright lights, fireplaces, barbecues) here as they are fire elements and fire destroys metal. Never, ever have fire located here. Water should also not be in this area, as water exhausts metal.

Enhance this area with stones, earth objects, vases, globes, metal objects, stereos, computers, and fans and windchimes. If there is a toilet here, add a bright light.

SOUTHWEST SECTOR:
This is the sector of the woman or matriarch of the house. This is the second most important area of the house. Afflictions in this area, such as toilets, are harmful for the woman and for the marital or romantic relationship(s). This sector is also associated with the abdominal region.  If you are a man and you are single, it's possible you have a hard time attracting a woman to you.  If the southwest is missing and you are a woman, it's possible you are gone from home a lot and you might have a hard time finding marriage prospects because this is the marriage sector.

If there are afflictions or problems in this area, it will create problems for the woman and/or the stomach region of anyone living in the house. Avoid having plants and metal objects in this location, as this destroys the energy here, creating fatigue in the woman and difficult relationships for everyone in general.

Instead, enhance the SW sector with earth elements such as vases, stones, pictures of mountains, candles, lamps, or red elements. Remember, if a toilet is in this sector, add a plant here.  A lamp in this sector will help stimulate this corner for marriage.  If this sector is missing, add the lamp in the southwest corner of the living room.

EAST SECTOR:
The east sector belongs to the oldest son or only son. Afflictions to this sector create problems for him. The east sector should stay free of problems because the east sector is also the health sector – and anything affecting the east sector, affects everyone’s health, the oldest son’s, in particular.

The east also is the area associated with the feet. So, any problems in the east sector will affect the foot area. Red colors, fire elements, and metal objects will all harm the east sector. Avoid having these element here. Toilets located in the east sector can be addressed by hanging a 5-rod windchime.

SOUTHEAST SECTOR:
The southeast is the sector of the oldest or only daughter. This is also the wealth sector. If you have afflictions here, such as a toilet, kitchen, or junk room, then this daughter will be affected.

The southeast is also associated with the hip region. Afflictions in this area will affect the hip area (sciatic nerve? Lumbago?). Enhance this area with small plants, wooden objects, fruit, flowers, rectangle-shaped objects, and green, blue, purple, and black colors.

If there is a bathroom located here, you can add a five-rod windchime here to hold down the bathroom’s negative energy. Avoid having metal, white, red, or fire elements in this sector.

SOUTH SECTOR:
This is the location of the middle daughter. The south is also the location of the eye and the heart. Afflictions to the south affect both. Afflictions include having water elements, such as bathrooms, in this location.   Afflictions can also harm your good name, causing people to gossip about your family, or cost you your friendships.

Even junk or jammed closets in this sector will affect the middle daughter – not to mention everyone’s recognition factor. To enhance, add fire and wood elements, such as lights, barbecues, candles, red colors, or plants.

Water and earth both douse “fire” so be sure to avoid these elements in this area, or you could experience eye or heart problems, difficulties with the middle daughter, or with recognition or your family's good name.

WEST SECTOR:
The west is the area of the youngest daughter. It is also the area associated with the mouth. Afflictions to this sector affect both, in addition to creativity and social activities. Examples would include having water or fire elements in the west sector. If there is a toilet located here, be sure to add something red to help exhaust the negative energy.

Address the affliction so that there are no difficulties with the mouth or with the youngest daughter. Enhance this sector with metal objects, such as those noted in the Northwest sector.

NORTH SECTOR:
The north sector is a water sector and it is associated with the middle son. Afflictions in this location affect him and the ears. If children are having ear infections or sinus infections, be sure to check for afflictions, stoppages, or other problems (toilets? crammed closets?) in this sector.

The north is enhanced by water elements, fish, turtles, black, blue, and purple colors. It is exhausted by fire and wood elements. So, try to avoid having plants in this sector as this will hurt the ears and the middle son – not to mention your career.

NORTHEAST SECTOR:
This is the sector of the youngest son. It is also the sector of the hands and education. Afflictions in these areas affect the youngest son, the hands, education, and the ability to make good decisions. Toilets here benefit from having a plant placed in them, such as on the back of the commode. Enhance the area with stones, porcelain objects, gravel, vases, bricks, and small bumps of earth.  This will ensure that you can think clearly and make wise decisions and children will do well in school.
