Feng Shui Today
The Asian Influence
In Hong Kong. and in other parts of China and Asia, feng shui is a seriously regarded practice. High-level businessmen and women throughout Asia -- and now throughout the world -- often won't proceed in any undertaking without employing the skills of a feng shui master. Many attribute their success, and in some cases, turnarounds in fortune to either unfortunate or fortunate feng shui.
Feng Shui Takes Over the West
In the western hemisphere, feng shui has pervaded our consciousness. From gardens to interiors, from windchimes to indoor water fountains to "zen" decorating, feng shui is sweeping Europe, Australia, America and South America -- and shows now signs of stopping. Some speculate that the reason is because Western society is turning inward and is searching for meaning, which is something feng shui offers them.
Weber says that feng shui's greatest appeal is that it answers the "why" of decorating. "More than just aesthetic appeal, feng shui provides the homeowner with a reason for painting a room moss green, besides the fact that it matches the sofa," she says. Those reasons might include fostering better family relationships, improving your health, or because it is the correct color for the oldest son in the family.
This is also what moves feng shui beyond being just purely a decorative concept. "That's because it's about meaning... something everyone in America is looking for. It's the natural transition. We have became cocooners and have put a lot of emphasis in our homes in the past few years. Now, we want to know that the way we are decorating and orienting our homes is also going to do something for us besides just looking pretty."
Weber's Opinions Have Gained Notice
She has been interviewed by numerous publications and newspapers, radio shows, and is published on websites around the world. She also publishes a newspaper column, Living Space, on home and lifestyle issues such as decorating, cleaning, and organizing.

Feng Shui E-zine Helps You Go From Striving to Thriving
Red Lotus Feng Shui Design and Consultation creates content-packed online e-zine for feng shui. Kathryn Weber, owner and Feng Shui Master Practitioner, helps individuals and businesses create surroundings that promote personal and financial effectiveness with informative newsletter that cuts the new-age hype and gives solid feng shui information to its readers in The Red Lotus Letter.
The Red Lotus Letter is the Web's largest free weekly email newsletter delivered directly to readers mailboxes each week. The content-rich e-zine gives straight-forward feng shui information without all the confusion. Published by www.redlotusconsulting.com, The Red Lotus Letter clues readers into the secrets of the exciting world of feng shui in clear, direct terms, giving them straight-forward ideas to implement. Weber says that Americans are hungry for an e-zine with this kind of information.
"Personal effectiveness has a greater importance these days," Weber says, "and people are looking for information that can help them reach their goals faster -- and easier." For instance, a new job that moves your career and finances along might hinge on relocating or selling a home. However, if the home isn't attracting buyers, your effectiveness is diminished because you can't get moved and on the job as quickly.
Simple Feng Shui corrections, such as turning the lights on in the South portion of the home and living room, or adding a moving feature such as a clock with a pendulum to the center of the home can help attract a buyer. Even the common decorating practice of placing a mirror in the foyer of the home symbolically pushes out everyone who enters the home. Replacing the mirror with an inviting picture, especially one that features water, can instantly change the energy of the home to one that prospective buyers would favor.
In 1994, it was exactly this scenario that prompted Weber to become involved with Feng Shui. "I had learned about Feng Shui after visiting Indonesia in 1989, but hadn't really used it until we hadn't sold our house in over 10 months. So, I thought I'd make some Feng Shui changes to see if it would help. We had an offer two days later. After that, I was hooked."
Weber has consulted with people trying to attract a mate, improve relationships with their children (or to improve children's study habits), increase their sales, or gain new customers. Feng Shui, according to Weber is more than just making your space comfortable or pretty: it's about achieving goals. "One of my clients is a Vice President of a national investment company who needed to bring in $10 million in new sales each year. Making changes in the executive's office saw sales climb to $3 million the first month to over $7 million within three months."
Results are what Weber says to expect from Feng Shui. "Feng Shui is not just a decorating technique; its purpose is to enhance and promote personal objectives such as harmonious family relationships, satisfactory careers, prosperity, good health, promote good community standing, and enhance interactions with helpful people." But there is a downside to a harmonious home or office, Weber says. "If the Feng Shui is correct in your home or office you'll know because you have a hard time getting people to leave and that's not such a bad thing if you're in sales, have a retail business, or are trying to sell your house!"
Kathryn Weber is originally from San Antonio, Texas. She has lived in the Pacific Ocean and moved to Texas from the East Coast where she still consults.
