Everyone is working more. With the availability of cells phones, broadband, home offices, and email access at malls, you could just about say that wherever we are, that's where our office is. Because we are working around the clock, in many instances, good office feng shui becomes vital. Nowadays our office is our "second home." Many people, in fact, spend more time at their office than they do at home.
If that describes you, how is your office supporting you? Is it organized? Is your desk positioned well? If not, you could suffer from a number of problems that range from lack of management support to politicking and gossip to possible layoff. Or, you might just have career malaise whereby your career is still plugging along, but it just isn't as good as it could be.
That's what happened with Barbara, a sales director for a family of radio stations. While her job was secure, sales were slowly slipping at a time of year when they are usually quite high. The problem? There were several, really. Look at the office arrangement below and see if you recognize any of these problems with your own office. Then take a look at how in just a three short hours we completely re-arranged her office to put her in a "Command" position in her office -- and her career.
Barbara's Office: BEFORE
As you can see, Barbara was directly facing the door, the source of a poison arrow. Being situated this way is much like sleeping facing the door: it is the "death" position for your career! She also was arranged so that anyone could look over her shoulder through a hallway window (noted by the blue arrow). Here are the other difficulties:
- Lamp behind her creates gossip and politicking behind her back. Light should never be BEHIND you!
- Bookshelf on the N-NE wall creates poison arrows (backstabbing) at her back.
- Train picture hung behind her desk creates third poison arrow, effectively "pinning" her to her chair.
- L-shaped desk cuts her off at the legs.
- Sales board in the NW position and not in the wealth location of the SE
- Barbara faced the SW, confronting the Grand Duke Jupiter, which creates conflicts with authorities and others.
Barbara's Office: AFTER
As you can see, the desk was arranged so that Barbara has a solid wall behind her with the two chairs directly facing her. She is also facing the window and the lamp has been moved to the S-SW position. Here are the other changes:
- Sales figures moved to the "wealth" location. Art work of rivers and a small bulb flower emerging from snow are placed to boost the wealth location.
- Plant is moved to the east location for continued growth and health.
- Computer arranged so no one will peer over her shoulder
- Desk is arranged to confront the three killings energy and stop back-stabbing. South is also her personal growth direction for her kua.
- Bookshelf with stereo and brass coat rack moved to the NW corner of the office.
- Black train picture moved to the north wall to give her career more "steam."
You'll notice that Barbara's office is now MUCH more INVITING and balanced. Sheng Chi (harmonious energy) can now meander into her office and SETTLE here. Take a look at your office and see what you can do to improve your work style!
