Protective Feng Shui
Your First Priority in Feng Shui

Protective feng shui is your first priority when you are looking to improve your feng shui.  That's because the emphasis should always be first on protecting your home, your family, your financial assets, and your health  -- and after that you can concentrate on enhancing your home or office.  After you have protected your home from a feng-shui perspective, then you can move forward with placing features to bring in greater wealth, improve your relationships, or enhance your health.

Protection comes in the number of ways in feng shui.  From amulets, symbols, and figurines of gods, there are any number of ways to use feng shui protection.  However, before employing objects and figures, I suggest that you look at your space first and undertake a careful assessment of the space and the energies at work there.  For me, the first place to look is at annual afflictions.

1.  Address annual afflictions.
Annual afflictions are energies that change from year to year.  Each year there are four positive sectors and four negative ones.  The negative sectors correspond to areas of your home where this energy is drawn.  In 2006, for example, malevolent energies are located in the north, northwest, west, and southeast.  You'll want to understand what type of energies they represent so you can adequately protect yourself.

Although annual afflictions should be addressed, it's also important to watch monthly afflictions -- particularly the illness afflictions.  This year, several sectors have especially malevolent energy that can cause serious illnesses, such as leukemia is children, miscarriage, or cancer.  To be fully prepared for all the energy this year, read the 2006 Monthly Flying Star report.

2.  Protect your good name.
A good name is something a family works a long time to build and develop.  Even small things can undermine your ability to keep your name and reputation in tact.  One way is to have a welcome mat printed with your family's name at the front door.  This enables all who enter your home to stand on your good name and wipe their feet on your "welcome" to your home.  Make sure you avoid this by never putting your name on the ground.

3.  Protect your good health.
Health is everything, it's true.  Protect your health by enhancing your east sector of your home and yard.  Avoid having trash cans in the east corner of your home or yard as this will harm your health.  Likewise, toilets in the east sector of the house can also harm your health.  If you have this situation, add red elements to curtail the negative effects of the toilet on your health.

You should also make sure you cannot see a toilet from your table, your kitchen, your front door, or your bed.  If you can, you are seriously risking your health.  Finally, make certain that your feet are never pointed out a door or window as you are sleeping.  This is known as the death position and it can also harm your health.

4.  Protect your relationships.
If you have a peach-colored bedroom, unwanted relationships could enter your marriage.  Avoid peach colors, particularly in the bedroom.  Likewise, it is important to remove mirrors in the bedroom as this doubles the number of people in your bedroom.  When decorating, use only pictures of the couple in a bedroom and do not have pictures of other people -- even children -- in the bedroom of a couple.  Flowers and plant-motifs are also not suitable for bedroom decorating as these can sabotage and drain a relationship, causing a spouse to possibly stray.

5.  Protect your wealth.
If you have a toilet in the southeast corner of your home, you've got a damper on your ability to earn money.  If you have a road directly behind your house, you may also have problems keeping money -- or a job.  If your front door and back door line up, it's also possible that you burn through the money and it runs through your hand like sand.

Toilets and kitchens in the center of the house also harm finances.  For toilets, you should add a plant to absorb the negative energy and kitchens should be decorated in blue colors.  Have a backyard pool or pond?  Make sure you do not hear it at night or you could possibly go bankrupt!

Another sector that's important to wealth is the north sector, which is the career sector.  The front door is also an "opportunities" location.  If you have problems or afflictions in the north sector or at the front door, you could lose your job, be demoted, or have a problem with moving ahead in your career.  Protect your wealth by protecting your career.  Make sure the front door is bright, attractive, painted according to its direction, and is nicely decorated.

Look out for all the feng shui strains you have on your wealth and take steps to handle them so you protect your financial well-being.
